NFL player says “NObama” for him.

Harrison is tough on presidents...and Cleveland Browns fans too.

It’s customary for the Super Bowl champions to visit the White House where they meet the president, present him with a team jersey he will never wear and pose for the obligatory photo op.

James Harrison of the Pittsburgh Steelers won’t be accompanying his teammates to meet President Obama Thursday.  His reasons why slightly defies logic and good common sense.   Harrison, the 2008 NFL Defensive Player  of the Year told a Pittsburgh television station:

This is how I feel — if you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don’t win the Super Bowl. As far as I’m concerned, he [Obama] would’ve invited Arizona if they had won.”

Anybody want to tell Harrison it’s the winners, not the losers, who get the White House invitation?   Nobody asks the team that loses the Super Bowl if  they’re going to Disneyland.  The presumption is they’re just going home.

To be fair,  this is the first time Harrison has skipped the White House ceremony.  He snubbed George Bush in 2006 after the Steelers won Super Bowl XL.     I  imagine the image-conscious NFL is none too pleased about Harrison blowing off Chief Executives this way.

There are 32 teams in the NFL.  Only one wins the Super Bowl.   Does Harrison really not grasp this not-very-difficult concept or does he really expect the President of the United States to take time out to meet with the 31 teams that didn’t win like the Detroit Lions?

The Lions only lost every game last season.  They not only could use a federal bail-out, a big hug might be nice too.

What can be said about Mr. James Harrison, a quarterback stomping linebacker for the world champs?

Keep in mind this is a guy who makes a living running around a football field wreaking havoc by throwing his body into other large men with great impact and at a high rate of speed for which he is well compensated.

Hey! I thought the prez was a basketball fan!

Should we be surprised then that James Harrison doesn’t exactly come off as a Rhodes scholar?

Two words: Dumb. Jock.
