One Foot Out the Door.

Today is devoted to the last frantic hours of getting ready before its time to get outta Dodge, so no long blog posts today, kiddies.  I  do have  a few thoughts though before I get on that big bird to the Big Bad Apple.

Last November Bob McDonnell beat the snot out of President’ Obama’s chosen candidate the GOP and press proclaimed McDonnell had created a successful formula that could be repeated by Republicans across the  nation.

That was before he got the bright idea to declare April as “Confederate History Month.”

Despite previous governors’ refusals, McDonnell issues Confederate history month proclamation

Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has quietly declared April 2010 Confederate History Month, bringing back a designation in Virginia that his two Democratic predecessors — Mark Warner and Tim Kaine — refused to do.

Republican governors George Allen and Jim Gilmore issued similar proclamations. But in 2002, Warner broke with their action, calling such proclamations, a “lightning rod” that does not help bridge divisions between whites and blacks in Virginia.

This year’s proclamation was requested by the Sons of Confederate Veterans. A representative of the group said the group has known since it interviewed McDonnell when he was running for attorney general in 2005 that he was likely to respond differently than Warner or Kaine.

“We’ve known for quite some time we had a good opportunity should he ascend the governorship,” Brandon Dorsey said. “We basically decided to bide our time and wait until we had more favorable politicians in Richmond.”

Dorsey said the governor’s stamp of approval would help the group publicize the month and aide tourism efforts in the state.

Oh yeah, this will really goose tourism in old Virginny. I’ll be sure to schedule my vacation ASAP.

The KKK salutes Gov. McDonnell for Confederate History Month.

Visual aids are provocative are they not? Damn informative too.

Because to me all that ugly rag of a flag stands for state-sponsored racism, White supremacy, and the violent and total suppression, subjugation and degradation of Black people. Which is one reason pinheads who hate Black people treat it like an American Express card: Don’t leave home without it.

The guv wants everyone to know he’s not condoning or advocating slavery (even though he had language about slavery removed from the proclamation).   Oh, my heavens, no!   He HATES slavery just like every other Southerner who will scream loud and long, “My family never owned slaves.”

Well, does anyone have the names and addresses of those White folks who did, because somebody sure did.   McDonnell would like us to think “Virginia is for lovers”  just like the bumper sticker.   You can do that just so long as you’re ready to sugarcoat the ugly history about the state he’d rather not talk about.
A history that includes enslaving human beings as chattel and sending thousands of Confederate sons off to die to preserve the right to do so while marching under a traitor’s flag to kill other Americans.

Some history. Every Virginian should be very proud.

Catch you Sunday evening.   I’m out.
