H.K. Edgerton is one happy House Negro.

This image is of one Mr. H.K. Edgerton of Ashville, North Carolina.  Mr. Edgerton, a former head of the local NAACP, describes himself as a “southern heritage activist”  and for fun he likes to dress up in Confederate drag, grab a rebel flag and march around proclaiming how there was a “sense of family” between the Black and White folks back in the good old days of slavery.

No.  Seriously.  You can’t make this stuff up.  Well, you can, but nobody would believe it.

In a 2000 interview with the Southern Poverty Law Center, Edgerton expounded that we Negroes didn’t know how good we had it.

In an interview with the Intelligence Report, he insisted that he’s doing his part to “correct the lies” when he suggests that “it was better to be an African in the Southland as a slave than to be free in Africa.” He’s speaking as a “favored son of the South,” he said, when he addresses Confederate flag rallies from North Carolina to Georgia to Texas.

For his part, Edgerton manages to remain unfazed when white supremacists show their support at various flag rallies — despite an incident two years ago in which two Klansmen shot up his cousin’s house.

“It’s highly offensive to me for any member of my family or any member of this community to face that kind of terrorism,” Edgerton said after that attack, expressing concern that his relatives might have been targeted because of his position at the NAACP.

But Edgerton still has good things to say about the Klansmen with whom he chatted at a recent flag rally in Stone Mountain, Ga. — the place where the Klan was reborn in the 1920s — although he didn’t know then they were Klan members.

“They were willing to shake my hand,” he explains.

Well, kind of. At the Stone Mountain event, Edgerton reportedly invited a white woman onto the stage after speaking and gave her a kiss. Not long after, that infamous kiss was being relived on AlaReb, an invitation-only Internet discussion group for neo-Confederates.

“This is what happens when we choose to be inclusionists and integrationists,” a woman named Dianne wrote. “If we ask Negroes to support our cause they will expect certain perks, one of which may be the privilege of hugging and kissing the white females in attendance at these events.”

A posting signed by David Cooksey, current member and former chairman of the Tuscaloosa County (Ala.) chapter of the purportedly nonracist League of the South  is blunter.

“35 years ago, H.K. would not have even thought of such a disgraceful thing,” the posting said in a response to Dianne, “for he would have known that the men would not put up with this violation of a Southern White female! He would have never been seen or heard from again.”

H.K. had better recognize, that there are limits to just how far even he can go when it comes to coonin’ it up.Oh, hell to the naw! H.K. had better watch his ass. That rebel flag and Confederate gear he’s rockin’ won’t do him much good if his true agenda is exposed.

Fiendin’ on some of that White stank!

This is taking Jungle Fever way too far.

First, it starts with a little smooch and then it’s dancing and it ends up with H.K. getting his freak on with some innocent flower of Southern femininity and that awful word…MISCEGENATION..rears its ugly head.

When he’s not making a complete fool of himself with chubby old White men at Civil War reenactments, Edgerton likes to hang out with teenage girls protesting they should be allowed to sport the traitorous flag of the Confederacy at school.

There’s probably a Holocaust survivor who feels just awful about the trauma some poor Nazi guard went through from loading all those Jews into cattle cars and forcing them into the showers that weren’t showers at all.

Odds are there has to be at least one woman who’s been raped who figures she probably had it coming because she wore something too tight and revealing and got the poor guy all hot and bothered.

A Black man cheerleading for the Confederacy is as sick as a Native American saying how much better life was for them after all their land was stolen so they could go live on a reservation.

I respect his right to say what he likes about whatever it is he likes, but I have the right to say, “You must be out your damn mind.”    Following the flap over Virginia governor Bob McDonnell’s Confederate History Month proclamation  Edgerton showed up on  CNN to run his rap.  Check out Don Lemon struggling not to lose his cool while listening to Edgerton’s nonsense.

I’m not opposed to unorthodox thinkers who go beyond the conventional wisdom and espouse viewpoints that may be disturbing, radical and daring.  Outside of the box thinking and following the beat of one own drummer doesn’t frighten me.

What does bug me are either fools or educated fools who seem to think a controversial idea is the same thing as a brilliant one.   What does bug me is advocating an approach that moves Black people back into bondage and not out of it.  What does bug me are grown men suckling at the malignant, festering teat of White supremacy.

There are certain things that are absolutes is this world. Child pornography is evil. Rape is evil. The Spanish Inquisition, the Nazi Holocaust and American slavery were evil. In the way I live my life there is no room in an intelligent debate that these things are not evil. If that makes me close minded and intolerant then I plead guilty.

Edgerton and Sowell enjoy a snack.

I don’t know H.K. Edgerton’s education, but I do know he’s not alone in his perspective. The favorite House Negro of White conservatives, Thomas Sowell, has also pounded the drum of “slavery got a bad rap” when he said, “The people made worse off by slavery were those who were enslaved. Their descendants would have been worse off today if born in Africa instead of America. Put differently, the terrible fate of their ancestors benefitted them.”

Romanticizing the Confederacy and slavery is a perverse bastardization of history and it doesn’t escape my notice that the Black folks who heart slavery were never slaves themselves so they really don’t know what the hell they’re talking about. They may have studied history but they studied it badly.

So calling such Negro foolishness “coonin’ it up” seems eminently fair. I take great offense at Black men who prostrate themselves before White people hoping for their approval (and maybe to snatch a kiss from Miss Ann). Lorraine Hansberry warned of the threat posed by “assimilationist Negroes” in her play, A Raisin In the Sun and these two fools are exactly who she was talking about. The only thing missing from Edgerton and Sowell’s bullshit eye-rollin’ and shufflin’ is a big ol’ slice of watermelon.

As my friend at The Field Negro blogspot  says,  THE JIGGING MUST STOP!

  1. And here I thought that no one like Uncle Ruckus from The Boondocks could exist in real life. This is just a sad, sad shame.

  2. Who needs “another plan by the man” when this fool has his own plan to undermine our “freedoms”?

  3. You know, a picture usually tells a story. This one makes it unnecessary to even read the story. I bet he’d get a show on FuxNewZ any day now.

  4. This should tell us,just how brainwashed and crazy that a very high % of black people have become
while living under the past 3 so-called presidents. Most of this brainwashing and mind control is
coming from the racist media. Who have continued to promote and reinforce negative, slave type
    stereotypes.
Overall to me,this is a disgrace to all the black people who have tried to rise above this type of
    mental slavery.

    • Ok, I’ve got a lot to say both about the article and the comment above, lets start with the comment..

I can understand why you would believe such things but what I don’t understand is how you can say that about the media, if anything, they’ve helped you more than you give them credit for, same with the last three presidents. Do you even realise how much support is out there for non-Whites but if a White-American tries to get any help at all, they are declined 95% of the time. I’ve seen blacks driving around in these nice cars with flashy rims and yet they are on welfare? If they can afford the car, they can afford to feed their families. Yet, if my father went out and tried to get welfare(which he did at one point and was declined) to support his family, while he is out of a job for work related injuries, he gets declined.. and the worse thing about it is that the person on the other line told him he can’t get welfare because he is White :/ We pay for your welfare, we pay for your food, your cars, your clothes, your drug money, we pay for everything and you sit back and don’t do a damn thing for yourselves. A whole black family, about five people, live right behind my grandmothers house and they have these big speakers in their back yard and about five cars that just sit back there.. and they have parties almost every night, guess what, they don’t work and they are on welfare. So, tell me, do you have time to comment on this before you go pick up your check or do you have to continue insulting one of the few blacks that actually sees history for what it is and not for what the winners tell you it is. Oh and about the holocaust, Russian soldiers found those camps and the Russians hated the Germans, not even six million Jews lived in the lands Occupied by Germany at that time, so tell me, how could six million of them been gassed when only two million lived there at the time. I do not deny that they were deported to these camps but what I know for a fact is that they were not gassed, typhus outbreaks happened in the camps, spread by horrible living conditions and the prisoners were weak due to the shortages of food because of Allied bombing.. look into the facts people, its not hate, its heritage and truth(I do agree, however, that the Klan and other supremecist groups are based on hate, they shouldn’t represent the whole movement, though. That is just the part that the media shows you.)

      White Pride(NOT HATE)

(You should be proud to be Black, too.)

  5. Your comments are so derogatory that it is pitiful. You’ve never read any primary source history I bet.

      • Nice try. But I can’t see up there even a single argument why his side of a story is wrong… Just saying that he is dancing like some monkey and selectively picking up his words to make him look more like a monkey… Trying to prove way of thinking only by criticizing someone else’s is childish.
How old are you? Highschool? Or is it education in America that bad..? …. CHICKEN!

      • Education in America has its issues, but is English a second language for you? Your usage of the ellipsis seems a bit missapplied.

It’s not a “nice try” and simply because you don’t see “there even a single argument why his side of a story is wrong” (must have gotten garbled in translation) doesn’t mean my perspective that H.K. Edgerton is a raving idiot is wrong. Particularly so when you haven’t even attempted to provide a countering perspective.

        Thanks for reading though.

      • No, English isn’t secondary language for me… In fact it is third after Russian. But hey, you did the same thing again, just by proving that my English is bad, you won’t get any further.
And my argument was: ‘in case you’ve missed it’ that you’ve randomly picked up quotes from Mr. Edgerton to desperately show him as a stupid – and that is not argument itself. Just offensive insult. Look at picture up there, it is clear from the beginning that you are prejudiced…
Sorry for some mistakes, in Soviet Russia one doesn’t write words, it’s the words that writes one… or something like that

  6. Why was he ever associated with the NAACP, I would think he got involved so that he could destroy it from within.

    • Or perhaps his time with the NAACP taught him about real race hatred, and he decided to part ways with them. He’s a good guy. He isn’t the first, nor the last, to defect from that organization with a new attitude. Like someone who joins the Klan, and is so horrified by what they see that they get a new outlook on life, race, and tolerance.

  7. Interesting but not a newsflash…Can you get a recent interview?… On a similar note I think the Tea Party has some talking points that resonate within the Black Community…I am of the opinon Black folks need to be everyhwre when our interests are at stake..

  8. Oh, what our freedom has wrought!
Oh, what our freedom has bought!
It’s not necessary now for blacks to be caught:
Some gladly admit slavery’s our fault,
And back into its bowels gladly walk.

  9. and tonight I leave you with another adventure of: I was taught the Civil War In Public School so I don’t really know about the Civil War other than the South was the “bad guys” and the North was the “good guys”

sorry to disturb the Obama boot licking contest

    • What does Obama have to do with this guy being a shucking, jiving, embarrassment? Obama winning in 2008 really hurt the feelings of racists in this country. He has driven them to batshit insanity which only warms my heart and makes me smile.

  10. H.K. Edgerton is only one of thousands of male Negroes whose entire sense of being embraced the idea of white superiority and Negro inferiority. From the perspectives of these pathetic individuals no salvation could exist for any American Negro unless it first is blessed by the WHITE MAN.

This type of mental obsession with being accepted by the oppressor was well documented after World War II in relationship to a certain number of Jewish men who willing became enforcers and overseerers for the Nazi personnel running German concentration and extermination camps. In spite of everything that they had been taught by their religion and family tradition these Jewish men became some of the most brutal of all the concentration guards, taking great delight in inflicting horrific pain and suffering on their fellow kinsmen.

So called jigging Negroes appeared in the first minstrel shows that became popular in America immediately after the civil war. These shows reinforced and comforted white folks that the Negro though freed from slavery was still a sub-human fool in spite of his emancipation. Severe jim crow laws enacted in many states and communities across America caused the managers of these traveling ministrel shows to get rid of their Negro buffoons and use white men in black face (burnt cork) as the cast members instead.

When I was five years old, living in a small southern Negro community, the descendents of those rag tag minstrel Negro performers earned their living by making an endless journey between all of the black communities to put on street corner “shows”. (In these communities during this period there was no entertainment of any kind available for the black residents. So the appearance of these intinerate street performers was always a welcome diversion.) The street performers traveled with a large wooden box on wheels which they could use to setup a “knock up” portable stage wherever they stopped. Some of these performers also featured crude hand whittled marionettes in their performances. They would manipulate the puppets on a small stage while playing an old guitar and singing highly suggestive sexual songs. This was busking southern Negro style in the early 1930’s.

Mr. H.K. Edgerton doesn’t have to stand on a street corner in a black southern ghetto to make his living wages. He has discovered that there are other easier ways to the White man’s money. But he still has to “buck dance” for it. Just one word of advice for Mr. H.K., Edgerton if you get caught up a joyful moment with some white folks and their Confederate flag, and you find some white woman pulling you into a quick embrace; just make damn sure you’re not in TEXAS otherwise after that “ebony and ivory” embrace you may wind up dead and throughly “skinned” on the end of a chain attached to the rear of some white guy’s pickup truck!

I’d add genital mutilation of children to the list. I once debated the issue with a person who told me my views were ignorant, ethnocentic and paternalistic–close minded and intolerant were implied, as well. So be it.

Interesting read. That guy is TRIPPIN’.

  12. **SMH**Poor misguided soul. I hope that he faces reality one day and realizes that they are using him.

  13. You can always find a sambo somewhere . in case you did not know this every slave revolt was stop by a black person or house nigger . if you did not know this that girl is Black weather she clams it or not

  14. I am a transsexual. And you know, I had it so good when I had to live a double life and drown my pain in booze. Oh, yeah, it was even better when I was in a sham marriage and all those relationships in which I was lying to myself and the other person. But that wasn’t half as good as getting bullied and sexually harassed as a kid.

Yeah, now I know how good I had it. And every week I write my checks to Focus on the Family and the Boy Scouts–in drag, of course.

  15. You’re kidding right? “Son of the South?” Was Song of the South your favorite Disney flick growing up?

If slavery ever makes a comeback at least H.K. will be the first one to line to be fitted for chains.

  16. It seems ridiculous that at this time see a black supporting the Confederates, I guess it wants to be a slave.

  17. I am surprised nobody so far has said what I see in this man.

Honest, do you really think anybody Black man their right mind what think and talk as he does? Even if (and I know this is the biggest if I’ve ever written) historically he’s right and slavery wasn’t that bad bla bla etc etc, even then, would he be saying this? Even then it doesn’t make sense, because by mixing with ultra-confederates he is mixing with racists and people who despise him (and this independently of which bits of history are true and which aren’t because even if the old Confederates were the misunderstood good guys, the modern ones are not), so even if he amuses them for a while with his songs and speeches and flag and uiform. No, this cannot be true. It’s just one step too far to be rational. No, in my opinion he is a wind-up artists. He’s playing the neo-Confederates and enjoys seeing how he’s fooling them, and he’s playing the liberals and Blacks as well by all the embarassing bile they are spitting over him. His secret smile under that mask must be as big as a slice of that watermelon. I can tell you, if I was him it would be.

    • J.W. Gain

“But it wasn’t about slavery, it was about the Southern States’ rights to independence.”

There are those who would disagree:

“So-was the war about slavery? Of course. If there had been no disagreement over the issue of slavery, the South would probably not have discerned a threat to its culture and the southern politicians would have been much less likely to seek “their right to secede.” But was it only about slavery? No. It was also about the constitutional argument over whether or not a state had a right to leave the Union, and–of primary concern to most southern soldiers–the continuation of antebellum southern culture. Although the majority of Southerners had little interest in slaves, slavery was a primary interest of Southern politicians–and consequently the underlying cause of the South’s desire to seek independence and state rights.”

  18. And he’s said before he doesn’t support slavery. See, it’s not customary, to make up your own facts so that you can bash someone. Why would someone support the enslavement of themselves? That IS a interesting question. I’m PRETTY SURE he doesn’t.

    • “And he’s said before he doesn’t support slavery.”

Support or not, H.K. Edgerton is an apologist for slavery. It was a “peculiar institution,” one that he and others have sought to make into something it wasn’t.

Did you read Jeff’s blog entry, or did you read the one that you thought he wrote, the one that compelled you say: “it’s not customary, to make up your own facts so that you can bash someone.”

The best advice is not that which is given, but that which is given after one has first followed the advice that he seeks to give.

  19. Update, there werent any gas chambers in WW2 nor were any jews ever gassed, You call yourself a journalist? you are an idiot
