The President Said “Nigger” and the Sun Still Rose Today.

“Ya know, it feels pretty good to be able to say whatever the hell I want.”

Freed from the need to bite his  tongue, President Obama got raw in an interview for the podcast,  WTF with Marc Maron.

“Racism, we are not cured of it. And it’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say nigger in public,.”

“That’s not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It’s not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don’t, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior.”

OMG! The POTUS said the N-Word!   Of course the press lost their damn minds and the Infantiling of America continues.

My reaction is BFD and GTFU.

In this stiflingly politically correct age it’s refreshing to hear the President talk like real people do. I don’t use the ethnic slur nigger often (and I gave my daughter the Death Stare when she did at the dinner table the other night), but I NEVER use the weak and wimpy “N-word” if I can help it. It’s a phrase with no guts and no balls and a total dodge.

Obama_bullshit

Free History Lesson for anyone Shocked and Awed when Presidents stop pretending and start getting real.   We know White Presidents have said “nigger.” Many of the early Commander-In-Chiefs owned slaves and  Andrew Jackson was a slave trader!  The first White President held slaves and George Washington probably hung out between sessions crafting the Constitution bitching to another Founding Father how stupid, shiftless and lazy his niggers were.

A White President can say “nigger” and they have and will again. If they don’t want to be racist about it all they need to do is say it in context the way the Black President did. Then sit back and watch the media lose their minds about that.
Everything Obama said has been reduced to one stupid word. Faux Noise Network is positively wetting themselves with indignant harrumphs. As if they’ve never generously applied the word to the president in editorial meetings.

Sucker bet.

Fox News contributor Deneen Borelli, who is black, expressed outrage during a discussion on the Fox News show “America’s Newsroom.”

“He has really dragged in the gutter-speak of rap music,” Borelli said. “So now he’s the first President of rap, of street? I mean, come on, he has lowered the stature of the high office of the President of the United States.”

“The President-in-chief, the rapper-in-chief now, is further dividing our country,” Borelli continued.

All eyez on me.

Borelli, a Conservative Review correspondent, said Obama’s use of the word spoke “volumes” about who he is as a President.

“The man is divisive and he has taken the level of the office of the presidency down to another level by saying these words and he’s continuing — listen, class warfare — you name it,” Borelli said, trying to list what Obama has done wrong. “He’s dividing the country. … He makes it seem like our country is the racist (sic) country in the world, and it’s not.”

Host Bill Hemmer contributed his take on the use of the word.

“I mean as a white American, my entire life I know that this is an electric word,” Hemmer said. “And you stay away from it. … This is something that we thought was entirely off-limits and now you have the President using it.”

Shut the hell up!  Your stupidity offends me.   Damn Fox News!

As many times as Obama has been called a nigger, if he can’t say it, nobody can.

“Jeepers, Wally. I never thought I’d ever hear the President drop an N-bomb.” “That’s because you’re a total fucking tool, Beaver.”

Rachel Dolezal: Double Agent or Race Traitor?

If The Racial Draft really were a thing I’d want Rachel Dolezal on my team before Clarence Thomas.

I read this story elsewhere and when I finished I had one question and one question only.

Is  Dolezal doing a good job? If she is, then what’s the rumpus?

Oh sure, I can imagine there are many reasons why the head of a NAACP chapter should be Black instead of passing for Black, but the only question worth asking and answering is “Is she doing her job?” Not whether she’s really Black or should the NAACP have Whites in prominent leadership positions.   The organization has always been racially diverse and inclusive.  Dolezal took it to an extreme.

When Walter White became the organization’s first Executive Secretary in 1916, some wondered why a dude with blonde hair and blue eyes was running a civil rights organization for colored people. Turns out White wasn’t White, but Black. The NAACP has never been exclusively for Blacks only. The national office may have to address this matter to quell the controversy.

She wouldn’t be the first White person to long for an identity other than the one she was born with to get lost in a romance with Black culture.    Deceitful? Probably.  Deceptive?  Certainly.  Harmful?  Illegal?  If so, no one has made the case.

Is my hair Black enough for you?

The most troubling thing about Dolezal are the misrepresentations and lies she came up with to mask her passing for Black. This seems to me to be more of an ugly family matter than a willful attempt to deceive, but unless she has broken the law, I fail to see why Dolezal should be faulted for being a White woman concerned about fighting discrimination against People of Color.

The takeaway is I’m getting is transgender is okay for White men but transethnic is not okay for White women. Race is an “artificial concept” that doesn’t matter is what the Right wingers love to say.   Or at least it is right up until the time you try to transcend it. Assimilate! That is what Blacks are told they need to do. Assimilate into a White culture that doesn’t want you, resent you, and says you only got there through an affirmative action program. Woe betide anyone who forgets assimilation is strictly an “on” ramp into the White world and never an “off” ramp.

Where was all this offense and indignity about cultural appropriation when Iggy Azalea got off the boat became the latest non-Black star to get rich and die tryin’ by Outblacking the Black Folk (hello, Nikki Minaj. Little Richard would like to talk to you about Pat Boone). It wasn’t too long everyone seemed to think Miley Cyrus invented a new dance move in twerking? Is it okay if White people bite from Black culture and cash in on it as long as they don’t go too far and start thinking they ARE Black?

No. You can’t.

It may be delusional when a White woman working for the NAACP begins to identifies with Blacks so much she starts passing herself off as Black, but since she seems to be helping and not hurting I say “thanks” for the help. That’s the part that seems hardest for some both White and Black to wrap their heads around. Why would anyone go to such lengths to “be” Black? Of course Dolezal built a house of cards on sand in the middle of a hurricane and now that it’s coming down around her ears (in no small part due to the malicious actions of her family), there’s a lot of pleasure being taken by outsiders as her lies and fabrications are exposed.

It there is no evidence Dolezal broke any laws, what’s the controversy. Perhaps when she speaks publicly on Tuesday an admission may be forthcoming, but if fudging an employment application is a crime, there’s gonna be a lot of liars doing time in the slammer.

Something Dr. King said about the content of our character mattering more than the color of our skin seems relevant right about now.

If it worked for Caitlyn it can work for Rachel.

Live. Die. Repeat.

Running feet do not trump flying bullets.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

A Black man.  A car.  A White cop.   Black man runs.  White cops shoots.  Black man dies.   White cop arrested and charged for killing the Black man.

Sound familiar?  It should, but it’s not Walter Scott being gunned down as he runs away from Officer Michael Slager in North Charleston, South Carolina.   It’s Jonathan Ferrell, the 24-year-old former Florida A&M football player whom in September 2013 survived crashing his car in Charlotte, North Carolina only to be shot down when Officer Randall Kerrick shot Ferrell 12 times striking him with 10 shots. Crawling from the wreckage of his car a, bloody and disoriented Ferrell banged on a frightened woman’s door and officer responding to the 911 claim he rushed them.

Then, as with Scott, a Taser was used by the cops against Ferrell and failed to stop him.  There was also a dash-cam video of Kerrick killing Ferrell, but it was never released publicly.   Kerrick was fired, indicted and faces trial…oh hell, I don’t know.  SOMETIME in 2015.  Or maybe next year.  Or maybe never.  It’s hard to say with any certainty.

Despite all the absolute certainty repeatedly expressed in this thread that Michael Slager is guilty as sin for murdering Walter Scott, please remember there was video of Rodney King being beaten and Eric Garner being choked to death and we all know how those cases turned.

Slager has a new attorney who has a reputation of taking on tough cases and winning them including a cop accused of killing a suspect.  Slager will get his day in court (or he may not if he isn’t indicted) and he is entitled to mount a defense,  In the hands of a skilled attorney up can be turned to down and what looks an absolute certainty now can become an acquittal if only one juror finds there is reasonable doubt.

That’s the one upside of being completely cynical about successfully prosecuting and convicting a killer cop; when it doesn’t happen you’re never shocked by it.

If I wanted to I could update my blog with nothing but updates of cops shooting Black men.   I could, but I don’t want to. If I never wrote another post about a Black man killed by a cop, I’d be thrilled.

But racist police brutalizing us is a growth industry and business is good. Cops beating up, beating down and fucking up the world of Black people is an common event. It’s common practice.  Beaten.  Brutalized.  Bloodied.  This shit HAPPENS EVERY DAY. No holidays. No days off. No breaks. No pause. No let up of boots up the ass and on the necks of Black people.

Slam dunks are for the basketball court, not a court a law. A video is not a conviction.  There have always been cops whom  kill unarmed suspects, plant weapons on them and walk away from it and that is what would have happened had not someone filmed it.

Yet time and again, though the camera never lies, it doesn’t always lead to the truth and I have no faith it will in this case. The man behind the video, Feidin Santana admitted he gave serious thought to erasing the video.  Imagine how differently this story would have played out if he had.

If Slager is charged, he won’t be indicted. If indicted he won’t be put on trial. If put on trial, he won’t be convicted. If convicted, he won’t be imprisoned and he will NEVER be sentenced to death.   The good faith Americans place in the justice system is devout and guileless. unfortunately, the hard truth is their faith is all too frequently false and unfounded.  It’s more likely Slager walks away from this and U.S. Supreme Court precedent is why.

Maybe things will be different this time, huh?   Let’s all close our eyes, clap our hands and wish for ponies this Christmas too.

You have the right to remain silent. Forever.

The Republicans Are Really Proud of Their New Special Black Friends.

If you close your eyes, you'd never know they were Black.

“Sure, we’re Black, but we’re not angry Blacks like Obama.”

Geraldo Rivera, hack “journalist” and one of the world’s most useless human beings took to Twitter to unleash his righteous rage upon the NAACP for not joining in on the celebration after the elections of Tim Scott in South Carolina to the Senate and in Utah, Mia Love became the first Black Republican woman elected to the House. Rivera sniped on Twitter, “The NAACP refuses to embrace the success of Republicans Senator Tim Scott and Rep elect Mia Love because though black they are not victims.”

This is obviously a REALLY BIG DEAL for the G.O.P. as they can’t stop talking about how superbad it is that they have finally voted for a Black man to the Senate and a Black woman to the House.  Democrats are a little less hyped because they have done this for decades.

It’s less impressive when you consider Scott won with 88 percent of the White vote, but only 10 percent of the Black vote. White South Carolina voters believe and trust Scott will represent their interests while Black South Carolina voters disbelieve and distrust Scott will represent theirs. We don’t have a similar breakdown for Love, but in Utah? Take a wild guess.

If there’s a reason I should take any special pride in Scott and Love’s personal triumphs nobody has explained what it is.  Aren’t Republicans supposed to be the party that says race is no big thing?   Well, let’s be gracious in defeat and extend congratulations to the GOP’s token Black friends and particularly Love who becomes the first Black Republican woman elected only 45 years after Shirley Chisholm did the same thing for the Democrats.

I’m long past getting hyped over putting Black faces in formerly White places. Once elected what a Black politician does next matters more than being the first. The ascendancy of Black conservatives in South Carolina and Utah may be a cause for celebration in conservative circles but it’s no big deal for Black Americans whom are not conservatives.

Love had her high-profile moment at the 2012 Republican National Convention but it didn’t spark an exodus from the Democratic Party by African-Americans and remarks like these won’t either.

She told the Desert News in 2012 that if elected, she would join the Congressional Black Caucus and “try to take that thing apart from the inside out.” She accused black Democrats of “demagoguery,” saying, “They sit there and ignite emotions and ignite racism when there isn’t [any]. They use their positions to instill fear. Hope and change is turned into fear and blame.”

Racism is only a problem today, she told Newsweek, as long as people allow themselves to be victims. “I’m no victim. I’m perfectly comfortable in my skin. My parents always told me, In order for people to see you as an equal, you need to act as an equal and be an equal, not make excuses for what you look like. I’m proud of having the skin color I have. It’s a feature I’m not ashamed of.”

“I’m a much bigger asshole than you are!”

Going by The World According to Mia the only reason a Michael Brown or Eric Gardner or Trayvon Martin became victims isn’t because they were Black but because they allowed themselves to be victims. If only they had realized that before they were killed they might still be alive!

I’m sure Love will be a credit to the race she doesn’t believe matters and to all the Republicans who will trot her out, squeeze in tight, cheese for camera, point to her as the only Black Congressional representative and squeal with glee, “See! We got one! Look at how diverse we are”

Forget Love’s race. Forget her gender. Close your eyes and listen to her words and she sounds the same as Allen West, Tim Scott, Gary Franks and J.C. Watts did when it was their turn to be the Black Special Friend of the White Republican Party.

I really don’t know enough about Love yet to decide one way or another. What I do know doesn’t give me any cause to believe she gives a shit about issues of importance to me or will be any different from every other Black Republican before her.

My heroes have always been more like Martin and Malcolm, and not Clarence and Condoleezza. I don’t have a problem with Black conservatives whom have a functional spine and speak their mind and not simply parrot the party line. I have a huge problem when they bring nothing new to the table and are only about their personal advancement.

A true Black hero has a love for Black people and I don’t get that vibe from these two.  I won’t say Love is an Aunt Jemima, but it’s clear she’s no Angela Davis.

Mitt meets all the Black people who voted for him in 2012.

A Strained Relationship Between Obama and the Black Press.

Has Obama turned a blind eye to the Black press?

Is the bromance between Obama and the Black press over?

Human beings have the unfortunate habit of looking at their own circumstances, incorrectly blaming others for problems of their own making and complaining bitterly it’s the other guy who needs to clean up the act.

Recently, George Curry, editor of the National Newspapers Publishers Association (NNPA), took the easy route and griped how President Obama had shown “disrespect” for the Black press.

“There is a disrespect for the black press that we have not seen in recent years. For example, we have requested — every year — an interview with the president. He can ignore 200 black newspapers and 19 million viewers but he can give one to every stupid white comedian there is on TV, the black ones and the white ones, and has time for all types of buffoonery but they will not respect the black press enough to give us an interview,” Curry said on TVOne’s “NewsOneNow with Roland Martin.”

It’s understandable Curry is bent if Obama opts to talk to a “stupid White comedian” like  Zach Galifianakis and not him, but he underestimates his own importance and misunderstands than in the final push to get the Obamacare enrollment numbers over the top,  the smarter media strategy is to plow resources into a You Tube video that garnered  11 million views of the video, and a 40 percent spike in traffic to Healthcare.gov from the day before.

That doesn’t happen in an interview with The Oklahoma Eagle or any other Black newspaper.    Old media takes it on the chin yet again from new media.   You’d think they’d be accustomed to it by now.

Black want more meetings with Obama like this one in 2010 (Credit: Chuck Kennedy/White House)

The president is no different from most of Black America.   The problem isn’t the president pays no attention to the Black press. The problem is the Black press gives him no reason he should.   Their clout within the Black community has withered and faded in the face of competition from Twitter, hip-hop web sites,  bloggers, podcasting and the rest of social media.

Obama does need to spend a little more time with the Black press and throw them a bone now and then to make them happy,  but he didn’t need them in this fight. Black folks are three times in favor of healthcare reform. It was White folks–specifically YOUNG White folks he needed to recruit. The Black press can’t even deliver young Black folks. Obama would get more attention from an interview with World Star Hip-Hop than the Chicago Defender.    The support for Obamacare by Blacks is three times that of Whites.   Clearly the White House doesn’t believe it needed Curry and company to sell the program to Black America.

If the Black press feels disrespected it earned that disrespect.   Most of its wounds are self-inflicted and chief among them are a failure to adapt to both changing demographics, embrace the technological innovations that could have resuscitated it and enabled it to thrive in the 21st century, but that takes money and the willingness to try something new and different.   I haven’t seen a lot of publishers in the NNPA who aren’t convinced yet their problems are due to a failure to adapt and that is why they don’t matter all that much.

Black journalism has a proud history and a sketchy future.  The audience they need to thrive is made of up young people who don’t read Black newspapers, don’t see how it is relevant to their lives and can smell the musky, antiquated thinking and unwillingness to meet them where they are.

As a former editor and reporter of the Columbus Post newspaper, I saw first-hand the push-and-pull between the reporters, editors, photographers, and staffers who were committed to creating a quality product and the publishers who were more interesting in protecting their turf, currying favor with favorite politicians, pushing their pet projects, schmoozing with old cronies, nursing grudges and settling scores with other prominent people in the Black community.

The tragedy is there has never been a greater need for a healthy, robust, dynamic and energized Black Press. Many of the advances made by African-Americans are under assault by a hostile Republican Congress, a fickle and unprincipled Democratic Party, right-wing activists from the Tea Party to the U.S. Supreme Court.   Now more than ever the Black Press is needed to tell our truth to our people and now more than ever it seems unprepared for the task.

If Bams gives the Black press the “sit at the little kids table” treatment, what have they done to earn a place with the adults?  Not historically. but from a contemporary and serious journalism perspective.  Break any major stories? Do any enterprise or investigative stories lately? Earn any Pulitzer Prize nominations?

Politicians and the press maintain a relationship of mutual need  that at times has to become adversarial.   Curry, Martin and the Black press wants more respect from Obama they need to realize they need to do more to get it.   Simply grumbling over the Obama Administration making them them sit at the little kids table doesn’t cut it.   They need to raise their game as journalists to a point where even the president realizes it is politically advantageous to keep the Black press in the loop.   Right now there’s no particular price to pay for Obama if he doesn’t set out the good china and seat them at the grown-ups table.

The president can do better but so can the Black press.

Martin wants more face time with President Obama, but will he get it?

Jon and John’s War Against The Black Vote

“Good job making it harder to vote, Jon.” “Thanks, John.”

I guess I really actually feel we shouldn’t contort the voting process to accommodate the urban — read African-American — voter turnout machine.”

~ Doug Preisse, Republican Party chairman of Franklin County

Here’s the thing about the sacred right to vote.   It’s only a right as long as you have it.   They don’t have to take it away from all at once.   Killing it off by a slow death of a thousand cuts will get the job done just as effectively.

The hard-right conservatism of the Republican Party does not appeal to Black voters.  This is simply a fact.   Here in Ohio, a perennial battleground state, the Republicans recognize this and have resolved to address it by doing all they can to suppress the Black vote as Think Progress reported:

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has followed through on promises to restrict voting opportunities in his state. The change, announced Tuesday, eliminates extended early voting hours on weekdays, the final two days before Election Day as well as Sunday voting, a day typically important to African-American voters because churches use it to turn out votes.

The early voting period is vital to the elderly, low-income voters, and anyone else with limited means to get to the polls, not to mention that it cuts down on election-day long lines and chaos. MSNBC notes that in 2008, black voters made up 56 percent “of all weekend voters in Cuyahoga County, Ohio’s largest, even though they made up just 28% of the county’s population.”

Optional in Ohio.

Husted’s announcement comes on the heels of other Ohio initiatives to suppress turnout. Ohio just passed two bills that eliminates an entire week of early voting and end the practice of mailing absentee ballots.

Naturally Husted would never say he’s going to make it harder to vote.  The Big Lie told by the GOP is they are streamlining the process and making it fairer.

“In 2014, absentee voters will have the option of voting in person for four weeks, or they can vote without ever leaving home by completing the absentee ballot request form we will be sending all voters,” Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted said. “Our goal is to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat and to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity in the voting process no matter which method they choose.”

“Easy to vote and hard to cheat?”   That’s a different line than Husted’s rap last year when his office and the state’s 88 country boards conducted investigations looking for fraud in the 2012 presidential elections and came back with 135 cases they recommended for prosecution.

Wow.  That many?  Go get those crooks, Jon-Boy!   Uh-uh.  Not so fast.  Every whiff of smoke doesn’t mean there must be a forest fire.

Voter fraud does exist, but it is not an epidemic,” Husted said. “To put this into context, … that’s 135 referrals out of more than 5.6 million votes cast.”

Oh.

Well, that’s disappointing, but 135 cases is good enough for the G.O.P.   Let’s go ahead and  shorten the early voting period by six full days and get rid of same-day voter registration.  While we’re at it let’s cut the number of voting machines in the state and increase wait time for voters at the polls.  Especially those old Black ones.   Watching them shiver in the November cold to cast their ballots will be fun!

This is how Husted, Gov. John Kasich and Ohio Republicans observe Black History Month.  By trying like hell to make the votes of Blacks history.

Once upon a time Blacks had to march in the streets and even die for the right to vote.   Just because marches aren’t popular and nobody’s dying doesn’t mean Blacks can relax and stop fighting to keep and protect their hard-won rights.

The Republicans are engaged in one of the historically most efficient political tactics: suppress the vote and by making it harder for people whom aren’t going to vote for you to for vote for the other guy, you win.  Voter suppression works for Republicans and that is today’s Black History Moment.  If we sit idly by it will be tomorrow’s Black future.

What the enemies of our progress take away we can take back.  IF we are willing to fight for it.    Hoping someone else will come along and get our rights back won’t do it.  When it comes to voter suppression Husted and Kasich are only getting started.

The secret of the GOP’s success.

A Few Words From James Baldwin About Liberal Arrogance

Some of my heroes do appear on stamps.

“A liberal is someone who thinks he knows more about your experience than you do.

James Baldwin

I run an application on Facebook that sends me an update when I am “defriended.”   Sometimes it’s a matter of an account becoming inactive.  Others because someone has had enough of me and cut me loose.   That’s fine.  I never was much interested in collecting as many “friends” and for the person who waxed me from existence because I don’t share your blind hatred of Barack Obama and single-minded obsession that Edward Snowden is an American hero, I thank you for the favor.   I’m only upset I didn’t cut you loose first.

I understand this story is very important to you.  But you cannot make it as important to me as it is for you.

Because I have enough with Good White Liberals telling me, “Yeah, what happened to Trayvon Martin? Damn shame. But what REALLY matters is Edward Snowden and the NSA. That’s more important than this trial. “

How am I supposed to process that as anything but an insult and yet another reminder that not only are Black lives less important than White lives, but our life and death issues as well?   It’s fine by me if the Zimmerman trial isn’t a major priority for others.  Just don’t tell me your priorities mean so much more than mine.

What is important to whom?   The Snowden case may be of burning importance to my friends on the Left, but I do not hang on every detail of where this so-called “whistleblower” may eventually abandon his country for.  I care a lot more about a dead Black teenager than a live White traitor.

One person’s cause is another’s lack of concern.

I decide for myself what’s important to me and I don’t seek anyone’s agreement.    The  Left should not ask for it from me and I will not I ask it from them.   It has often been a bone of contention for me that there are liberals whom seem to care more about their causes than they do people;  an ugly trait they share with their some of their more callous conservative cousins.

It is a matter of practicality for African-Americans to always look at their allegiances and work with liberals when their interests are mutually served or with conservatives  when they are not.    No one who seeks to demean your humanness or marginalize your issues should be considered a reliable friend.

Let no one try to tell you they know more about you than you know about yourself.    This was what Baldwin was warning Blacks about their relationships with liberalism  Even if you agree with liberals more often than not politically,  be ready to hold them at arm’s length when they disrespect you.     They DON’T know what matters to you better than you know yourself and NO ONE should ever try to tell African-Americans they know what they should be worked up over.   There are some well-meaning liberals who think being liberals means they are racially born again.

It ain’t necessarily so.  Any of us can be racist and none of us are exempt from that particular philosophical blindness.   No matter how many times they may have read Baldwin, Why We Can’t Wait or The Autobiography of Malcolm X.

To be good allies each side must respect the issues that are important to one side if not the other.   I understand why Snowden’s revelations about the NSA’s surveillance program is important to White liberals.   I don’t believe it’s too much to expect White liberals to respect, if not necessarily understand why the Trayvon Martin case is as vitally  important to Black liberals.

As the Zimmerman trial winds down and the jury begins its deliberations, now would be a particularly good time for both sides to remember they work best as allies than adversaries and Trivializing Trayvon will not score liberals any points with their Black allies.

Paula Deen’s Southern-Fried Racist Fantasies

Maybe by now you’ve heard that Paula Deen, the Food Network chef whose confections include stomach-churning monstrosities such as Deep-Fried Lasagna, Chocolate Cheese Fudge (don’t forget the Velveeta!)  and  Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding  made some colorful comments during a deposition she gave for a discrimination lawsuit filed against her, her brother and others.

Deen admitted to using “nigger” and other derogatory racial slurs (“yes, of course”) and described wanting to have a “very southern style wedding” for her brother modeled after a restaurant where the “whole entire wait staff was middle-aged black men” in white jackets and black bow ties

I am absolutely shocked–SHOCKED–I tell you that a 66-year-old, White trash, trailer park, backwards-ass, country-fried peckerwood who fries everything in butter is a racist old SKANK. Who woulda thunk it?

Am I going too far?  Am I wallowing in the same sort of vulgar and nasty stereotypes  Paula Deen dreams of?   Yes, I am and what of it?

Just to be clear if my language is extreme (and admittingly it is)  you can’t be bad with that and e good with Mrs. Deen’s “bunch of little niggers” dancing around like they’re in a Shirley Temple movie phraseology.   Because if we can’t express loathing, revulsion and disgust for Deen’s Southern-fried fantasies of Black men in White shirts waiting on her hand and foot, then I’m kind of stumped on how to do so properly without turning Deen’s vile stereotypes against her.

Paula is down for the chocolate.

What gives stereotypes their sting is when they have some grain of truth to them. African-Americans do like fried chicken. White people put mayonnaise on their sandwiches. There are gay men whom adore Judy Garland and Irish husbands who get sauced and beat their wives’ asses.

Americans like to tell themselves racism is a thing of the past.   The Supreme Court stands poised to gut the 1965 Voting Rights Act because Antonin Scalia says it is a “perpetuation of racial entitlement.”   Surveys indicate Whites are more hostile to affirmative action than ever before and believe they are the ones suffering most from racial discrimination.    In comparison to the mounting tensions between Whites and Blacks, Deen’s wet dreams of subservient Blacks seem staggeringly trivial, but in another way are a troubling reminder of how much progress remains to be made between the races.

There remains Southern born bigots like Paula Deen who long for the days when you could call a Black man shining your shoes a “boy” and much worse if they forgot their place  and they had better not give a White person any sass  if they knew what was good for them.

Is calling Deen a peckerwood, White trash, a trailer resident going over-the-top deep into Stereotype Lake?  Sure it is, and I know she’s probably none of those things, but then I’m not a nigger either.

What Paula Deen thinks about Blacks is sad, pathetic and backwards as hell,  but I still feel more pity than contempt for her.   To the extent she can think at all, who  cares what this phony thinks about Blacks?  The women’s brain is full of butter, gravy and b.s. and ingesting all that fried gunk probably gave her Type 2 diabetes.

Seems like poetic justice to me.

ADDENDUM:  Oh, look!  Roland Martin, The National Association of Black Journalists choice for the 2013 Journalist of the Year took to his Twitter account to defend Deen’s divine right to say “nigger” as much as she wants.   How gallant of The Ascot.

“I like plenty of butter and gravy on my Negroes.”
