Republican Enablers Make Attacks on Abortion Providers Possible. Democratic Wimps Make It Inevitable.

Colorado Springs shooting suspect Robert Lewis Dear of North Carolina is seen in undated photos provided by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. A gunman burst into a Planned Parenthood clinic Friday, Nov. 27, 2015 and opened fire, launching several gunbattles and an hourslong standoff with police as patients and staff took cover. By the time the shooter surrendered, at least three people were killed, including a police officer and at least nine others were wounded, authorities said. (El Paso County Sheriff's Office via AP)

Colorado Springs shooting suspect Robert Lewis Dear of North Carolina: the latest American Psycho

“We can’t let it become normal. If we truly care about this — if we’re going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience — then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough.”
~ President Obama in response to the shootings at a Planned Parenthood clinic

I’m going to engage in speculation here, but I feel certain it isn’t reckless or irresponsible speculation.   The motives and motivations of Robert Dear, the suspect in the Colorado Springs shooting spree  which left three dead and nine wounded, are yet unknown.   What his political leanings were or party affiliation was is also still in doubt, but here’s what I believe isn’t in doubt:  this one is on the Republicans.

I’m not going to lay the blame on conservatism as a whole, but specifically the fault goes to the Republicans. Between Fox News, right-wing radio and opportunistic G.O.P. politicians in cheap suits making Planned Parenthood part of their Axis of Evil, it was only a matter of time before some asshole got their grubby mitts on a gun and started shooting up a clinic. “I’m going to kill cops, patients, nurses and doctors to save the babies because I’m Pro-Life!”

It wasn’t just Carly Fiorina lying her Botoxed face off with a phony video slamming Planned Parenthood as a baby body parts merchant. Fiorina was the one to lie and keep lying after she got caught lying. Fuck the truth and fuck the facts. ARE YOU NOT OUTRAGED?

It’s a goddamn travesty it is even necessary to have police guarding clinics for a woman to undergo a medical procedure.

That’s the Republicans for you. They light the fire, throw gasoline on it, push you in and claim you were clumsy and fell in, then demand an apology for being accused. There is always a chance this Angry White Man could turn out to be a Pro-Choicer who staged a false flag covert op to gin up sympathy for abortion clinics and the movement. We know that’s bullshit, right?

Dr. George Tiller: murdered by an anti-abortion terrorist in 2009.

It is completely acceptable to blame the Republican Party for an abortion clinic terrorist when they have created the political climate in the U.S. that emboldens and then sympathizes with this sort of domestic terrorist action. If wasn’t for the fact a cop was among the slain the GOP would be as sympathetic as they were when Dr. George Tiller was murdered in Kansas by another Angry White Man with a gun.

Dr. Tiller had been singled out by Bill O’ Reilly as “Tiller the Baby Killer” and mentioned him 28 times on his top-rated program. After Tiller was gunned down by Scott Roeder, O’Reilly expressed his sympathy–for his own demagoguery and Fox News’ demonetization of Tiller:

When I heard about Tiller’s murder, I knew pro-abortion zealots and Fox News haters would attempt to blame us for the crime, and that’s exactly what has happened. […]

No backpedaling here, madam [Mary Mapes]. Unlike you, I report honestly. Every single thing we said about Tiller was true, and my analysis was based on those facts. […]

Now, it’s clear that the far left is exploiting — exploiting — the death of the doctor. Those vicious individuals want to stifle any criticism of people like Tiller. That — and hating Fox News — is the real agenda here. Finally, if these people are soooo compassionate — so very compassionate, so concerned for the rights and welfare of others — maybe they might have written something, one thing, about the 60,000 fetuses that will never become American citizens. Or am I wrong?

O’Reilly was wrong but no high-profile Republican calling him out for being wrong.

Be clear on this: I am blaming the far-Right, the right-wing noise machine and the Republican Party’s craven opportunism and pandering to the anti-abortion zealots in general and the mendacity of Carly Fiorina specifically. So-called “Democrats” and “liberals” who had nothing to say about the GOP’s propaganda then are useless enabling dupes with nothing of relevance to say now that people are dead.

You can’t play footsie with sort of fanaticism the way Republicans have and then claim it has nothing to do with anything when some nut takes fighting words and turns them into bloody action.

Denial of the pro-life militancy poison the Republicans have injected into the American body politics supersedes any claim of supposed liberal bona fides. Is it polarizing and impolitic to say the Republican Party has enabled and all but abetted this sort of bloody violence against abortion providers and Planned Parenthood? Sure it is, but so is the rhetoric spewed by the GOP for a long time now and if that didn’t honk off these so-called “liberals”, I could not care less if they don’t like it being said.

The Republicans love to bang on President Obama for not using the term “Radical Islam” in response to international terrorism. When the Republicans call what Robert Dear did in Colorado Springs an act of domestic terrorism, they’ll have a point instead of just a talking point.

The timidity of politicians and the refusal of citizens to call this act of violence by its rightful name: domestic terrorism is denying what happens here in the United States is the same damned thing as what happens on distant shores. A day has passed since the attack in Colorado Springs and only two out of 14 GOP presidential candidates have responded to the shootings, so if before gets offended I’ve namechecked the Republican Party, save some of that righteous wrath on the men and woman who want to be your next Commander-in-Chief yet have nothing to say when yet another city becomes a killing field.

Chances Robert Dear was part of some armed anti-abortion resistance like The Army of God are small, but even if he was the latest in a never-ending series of “lone wolves” hard to detect and harder to stop that should be worrisome to all sides of the abortion argument.

As a writer and journalist, I know how much words mean.  Words matter and words like “baby-killer” and “abortion mill” only polarize.  They can’t facilitate reasoned discussion, but they can push an already mentally unstable person to pick up a gun and go off on a mission to kill the baby killers and when one political party specializes in that sort of hate speech they own the consequences of the chaos it creates.

The passivity of consensus-seeing liberals in the face of concerted conservative enabling of ferocious anti-abortion extremism has not and will not elevate the debate to a higher plane of civility. It’s only abandoning women–and mostly poor women–to the non-existent mercies of maniacs like Robert Dear.

Another city. Another rampage. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)

The reproductive rights of women are literally under attack from anti-abortion fanatics enabled and abetted by the Republican Party. That may not pleasant to read, but it’s far less harmful to the ego than a crazed gunman’s bullets are to the body of a cop, client or staff of an abortion clinic. Republican lawmakers have done all they can to limit, prohibit, restrict and legislate abortion out of existence until they get another Supreme Court justice in place to outlaw it entirely. By this time next year they may well be in position to do just that.

The ramifications of a Republican president returning to the Oval Office is too slow and uncertain for the domestic terrorists who don’t want to wait. The radical extremists targeting abortion providers are hoping their atrocities will be minimized and marginalized as nothing more than one nut’s unhinged act of violence. The Left loves to pin a Good Conduct medal on their shirt for being on the “right” side of women’s issues, but when it comes to putting any teeth to the talk, they opt not to offend the Republicans who have fed this Frankenstein monster since Roe v. Wade.

Liberals and Democrats are selling women out under the vain hope by not being blunt about the enablers Republicans have been to abortion extremist they are going to move them to a more moderate middle ground on abortion and all that is doing is getting people killed. This is the flip side of the argument conservatives have so successfully made against the Left over international terrorism but they aren’t anywhere as reticent about hurting the feelings of liberals and Democrats.

No Safety. No Sanctuary.

Emanuel AME Church: Peace was stilled with gunfire.

There is no sanctuary.  There is no safety.  There is no mercy.    We were once again reminded when nine members of the Emanuel  A.M.E. church in Charleston, S.C. had gathered in a place of worship and were slain by  a 21-year-old gunman with White supremacist ties who turned it into a gory slaughterhouse.

I think the world has gone mad. We amuse ourselves with b.s. trivialities, pseudo-celebrities and media-manufactured “scandals” until something evil comes creeping out of the dark to rudely remind us nothing is sacred, nowhere is safe, and everyone is a target.

There’s a special place in hell for someone who would commit mass murder in a church.

Police say the suspect, pictured in the surveillance photograph above, sat in on a prayer group at the Emanuel AME Church for at least an hour before initiating the shooting.

At least nine people—six women and three men—were killed in the mayhem. That count reportedly includes State Sen. Clementa Pinckney, who also acted as the church’s pastor. According to an NAACP official interviewed by the Post and Courier, the shooter told one female survivor “he was letting her live so she could tell everyone else what happened.”

Pinckney’s cousin tells MSNBC witnesses say the gunman’s message was clear:

“He just said ‘I have to do it.’ He said, ‘You rape our women, and you’re taking over our country, and you have to go’.”

Dylan Roof: The wolf stalks the flock.

Those chilling words as well as the deed itself made it clear:  this was a hate crime and the congregation was deliberately targeted.

President Obama has made far too many remarks following mass shootings after the Gabby Giffords was critically wounded and two more were gunned down in Arizona, the Aurora movie theater massacre and the Sandy Hook school shootings and today he made another one.

At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it.

I say that recognizing the politics in this town foreclose a lot of those avenues right now. But it would be wrong for us not to acknowledge it. And at some point it’s going to be important for the American people to come to grips with it, and for us to be able to shift how we think about the issue of gun violence collectively.

Wherever there is blood spilled there’s America’s Most Trusted Name in Right-Wing News on the spot to offer  yet another Obama-bashing talking point and  Bill O’Reilly used his opening monologue to say sympathetic things about the nine slain parishioners, but not without calling the President “misguided”  for pointing out the frequency of shooting sprees in America.

O’Reilly is too egotistical to bother with a little thing like getting his facts straight.  He’d have to pull his head out of his ass first,  but even this swaggering braggart should be able to do the research Slate did and come up with 27 acts of racially-motivated slaughter and domestic terrorism since the Oklahoma City bombing  which killed 168 in 1995.

Rev. Clementa Pinckney: Pastor, Politician, Victim.

You might think…you would hope…in the midst of a still-developing story where critical facts and vitally important details are still forthcoming, a sober and responsible media would tread carefully and avoid superimposing their own agendas and biases to a tragedy.

Fox News is neither sober nor responsible.  There is nothing—literally NOTHING—that is bad which Fox News can’t make WORSE.

On “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning, co-host Steve Doocy said it was “extraordinary” that Police Chief Gregory Mullen referred to the massacre of nine black churchgoers by a young white male as a “hate crime.”

The segment began with Bishop E.W. Jackson, the senior pastor at Hope Christian Church, opining that he was concerned that this wasn’t a racially motivated crime, but a religiously motivated one. “There does seem to be a rising hostility against Christians in this country because of our biblical views,” he said.

“I would urge pastors in these churches to prepare to defend themselves,” Bishop Jackson added. “It’s sad, but I think that we have to arm ourselves.”

Pastors packing heat in the pulpit?    Anywhere else in the civilized word that would be considered an insane thing to say.   On  Fox it makes sense.    I bet Dylan Root spent a lot of time watching Fox News.

Doesn’t Fox have any decency?   No.  They really don’t.

So it’s not a race thing, okay, folks? Just another common, garden variety mass shooting spree and nothing to get hyped about by calling it a hate crime. I can’t wait for Fox  to explain how it’s all Obama’s fault.

A far more sensitive and thoughtful was provided by came  from Beyonce’s sister, Solange Knowles on Twitter.

Was already weary. Was already heavy-hearted. Was already tired.Where can we be safe? Where can we be free? Where can we be black?

Nowhere.   There is no sanctuary. There is no mercy.  Not even in  God’s House.

The meek will inherit nothing.    Only death from a racist’s gun.    Our pain is unrelenting.  Our prayers are with the grieving in Charleston and for the soul of a deeply sick America as well.

How many more times must the President try to console a traumatized nation?

Giuliani: Obama Doesn’t Love America (and he doesn’t think much of you either).

An ugly man who tells ugly lies makes for an even uglier drag queen.

Rudy Giuliani chopped up President Obama, threw him in a blender and turned it on to “high.”

NEW YORK — Rudy Giuliani went straight for the jugular Wednesday night during a private group dinner here featuring Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker by openly questioning whether President Barack Obama “loves America.”

The former New York mayor, speaking in front of the 2016 Republican presidential contender and about 60 right-leaning business executives and conservative media types, directly challenged Obama’s patriotism, discussing what he called weak foreign policy decisions and questionable public remarks when confronting terrorists.

“I do not believe, and I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America,” Giuliani said during the dinner at the 21 Club, a former Prohibition-era speakeasy in midtown Manhattan. “He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.”

With Walker sitting just a few seats away, Giuliani continued by saying that “with all our flaws we’re the most exceptional country in the world. I’m looking for a presidential candidate who can express that, do that and carry it out.”

In an interview after the dinner — Walker aides insisted all of the governor’s comments were off the record — Giuliani said he would “eventually” back a Republican presidential candidate. He also elaborated on his criticism of Obama by arguing the president “sees our weaknesses as footnotes to the great things we’ve done.”

“What country has left so many young men and women dead abroad to save other countries without taking land? This is not the colonial empire that somehow he has in his hand. I’ve never felt that from him. I felt that from [George] W. [Bush]. I felt that from [Bill] Clinton. I felt that from every American president, including ones I disagreed with, including [Jimmy] Carter. I don’t feel that from President Obama.”

Following his scorched earth attack on the President of the United States for his lack of love for the United States (and Rudy Giuliani), the former mayor of New York doubled down on his criticism of Obama with a flat-out refusal to apologize during an appearance on The Kelly File.

“Not at all. I want to repeat them,” he said. “The reality is, all I can see from this president, all I have heard from is he apologizes for America, he criticizes America. He talks about the Crusades and how the Christians were barbarians, leaves out the second half of the sentence that the Muslims were barbarians also.”

“He sees Christians slaughtered and doesn’t stand up and hold a press conference, although he holds a press conference for the situation in Ferguson,” he said. “He sees Jews being killed for anti-Semitic reasons, doesn’t stand up and hold a press conference. This is an American president I’ve never seen before.”

I have to carry this sign with me so people remember who I am.

Rudy Giuliani is a racist. Not the kind of racist who screams “nigger!” at the top of his lungs. That’s the old-fashioned, overt, uncool kind of racism and which makes everyone a bit weirded out. Dude, you’re being kinda racist. Rudy is far too savvy a politician to actually call out Obama that way.

There are other ways. Better ways. Ways that get the point across while leaving yourself wiggle room to plausibly deny you ever said anything offensive at all. Lee Atwater, the late adviser to George H.W. Bush, knew a little something about how to race-bait without actually saying anything that sounds racist. At least to White people who chose to willingly blind themselves to the truth.

You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”

Rudy understands the language of the racially abstract. How does one talk about a Black President without calling him a “nigger?” As much as Giuliani might like to, he know he can’t because that puts you in that David Duke camp and that’s too dangerous a place to enter even for the erstwhile “America’s Mayor.” Instead, you talk about Obama’s “otherness” and how he didn’t grow up as the son of a Kenyan Black father and a Kansas White mother the way Rudy did. Which means he must not love America the way Rudy does and is not to be trusted.

Whenever someone attacks the patriotism of another man, that’s bad enough.  The patriotism of Black people has been questioned for centuries, but sneer “He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country” that’s a different sort of assault. That is speaking in CODE.

“Obama isn’t like you and me. You know….White and Christian.”

Wake up and smell the bullshit. This isn’t politics as usual. This isn’t any of that “oh, worse things have been said about other presidents” noise.   This is a sniper attack, a cowardly assault and a slander on the character of the President of the United States by a racist scumbag.

Rudy G. was a bully as a mayor, a failure as a presidential candidate and a racist all his miserable life. He was a racist when Patrick Dorismond and Eleanor Bumphers and Amadou Diallo were gunned down by the NYPD and he’s still a racist with his post-Eric Garner/Ferguson “why don’t you Black folks stop committing so many crimes and force the cops to kill you?” ranting.

I AM TOTALLY NUTS AND COMPLETELY RACIST!!!!

The degree to which the White Right is infected with Obama Derangement Syndrome knows no bounds. First, they said he was a Socialist. Then they said he had no birth certificate and wasn’t born in this country. Now they say he’s sympathetic to Islamic terrorists and wants to give your pretty White daughters to Boko Haram to be good Muslim wives.

Why should Obama love Giuliani? Why should anyone love such a repugnant, repulsive, racist? I know what I read, I know what it means and don’t play me stupid by telling me I don’t.

Of all the ugly things said about the president, coming from such a prominent member of the Republican Party is perhaps the ugliest. But then Rudy Giuliani is an ugly man. Ugly on the outside and uglier on the inside.

Cliven Bundy Has A Negro Problem

American Idiot.

I admit it wasn’t until the last 48 hours that I paid any attention to the strange saga of Nevada cattle rancher, anti-government zealot, and Fox News folk hero Cliven Bundy and his battle with the Bureau of Land Management over the $1 million he owes the federal government and us in his refusal to pay grazing fees.

Nothing new about White men who don’t believe they have to pay for what’s not theirs and should be able to do what they please. Nothing new about anti-government zealots who speak plainly and find they quickly can be transformed from strange cranks to a just cause for militia groups and talk radio listeners.

Nothing new about someone like Bundy who invokes sympathy one day and scorn the next when he opens his mouth and the ignorance comes flying out. Enjoy his time in the spotlight due to the stand-off with the government, Bundy has taken to holding daily press conferences where he can share his wisdom on many topics.

For example, America’s Negro Problem.

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” Bundy said recalling driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

That sound you hear is the collective “D’OH!” coming from every floor of the Fox News Channel headquarters. And it just keeps getting worse.  Or better depending on your politics.

Free room and board, full employment, and happy slaves. Yep. Those were the days.

Because.
Bundy.
Just.
Won’t.
Shut.
Up.

“I’m wondering if they’re better off under a government subsidy and their young women are having the abortions and their young men are in jail and their older women and children are sitting out on the cement porch without nothing to do.

I’m wondering: Are they happier now under this government subsidy system than they were when they were when they were slaves and they was able to their family structure together and the chickens and the garden and the people have something to do?

So in my mind, are they better off being slaves in that sense or better off being slaves to the United States government in the sense of the subsidy? I’m wondering. The statement was right. I am wondering.”

Al Bundy

“Please don’t be related to me!”

I’m wondering too. Wondering how fast Sean Hannity, Rand Paul and the rest of the “we’re not racist, we just hang out with racists” right-wing pack will scurry away like scalded dogs from the latest stupidity to spill from this shitkicker’s pie hole?

For the losers, extremists and anti-government nihilists who side with a racist nut like Bundy they are receiving a harsh reminder of the danger of wrapping your arms around an extremist.  Now because Bundy is a raving racist asshole doesn’t mean those defending him are raving racist assholes themselves.   However, it does indicate their comfort level with raving racists assholes. As my friend Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Tony Norman tweeted, “Lie down with Bundy-sized dogs and get up with Bundy-sized fleas.”

Like a crash between a bus and a train the sight and sound of an ignorant man with no sense of how ignorant he really is and no inner filter to couch his bigotry in more mainstream language, Bundy is a horrible to behold, but fascinating in how blissfully he plows on without a care in the world.   Bundy has probably always referred to Blacks as “Negroes” in public and likely far worse in private.

For him, this is probably as politically correct as it gets.

“Hey , here comes Mr. Bundy. Everybody look busy!”

Megyn Kelly is Dreaming of A White Santa

Santa C. will bust a cap in yo ass.

Tis’ the season where Fox News goes even deeper into their batshit-crazy mode with their phony “War On Christmas” rap.

This year, Megyn “Legs” Kelly, the one at Fox who proclaims she’s “a straight news anchor” and not one of the opinion hosts at Rupert Murdoch’s toyshop for conservatives, went full moron in a discussion of an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris entitled Santa Claus Should Not Be A White Man Anymore where, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, suggested helpfully, a penguin get the gig instead.

Legs Kelly didn’t appreciate that. She dropped a big ol’ lump of coal in Ms. Harris’ stocking.

The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it’s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white. But this person is maybe just arguing that we should also have a black Santa. But, you know, Santa is what he is, and just so you know, we’re just debating this because someone wrote about it, kids.”

Of course, a number of critics were quick to point out that Santa Claus is a fictional character. And while he was based on St. Nicholas, a white man, his exact description is largely left up to individual interpretation.

However, after a guest on Kelly’s show defended the Slate article, Kelly extended her argument to further claim that the historical figure Jesus Christ was in fact Caucasian:

“Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn’t mean it has to change. You know, I mean, Jesus was a white man, too,” Kelly said. “He was a historical figure; that’s a verifiable fact — as is Santa, I want you kids watching to know that — but my point is: How do you revise it, in the middle of the legacy of the story, and change Santa from white to black?”

I’m a straight news anchor. I only dress like a bimbo.

I’m not a believer in Santa Claus and I have doubts Jesus looked much like that hippie from King of Kings either, but if Kelly wants to believe in two fictional characters, it’s okay by me. I wish she wouldn’t turn the “War on Christmas” into a race war.

Kelly is many things, but dumb is not one of them. “Calculating” is the word I’d use.  She knows how stupid this Santa and Jesus were White crap is. She also knows it makes for great television.  Of course this ridiculousness was pounced upon by Jon Stewart  as yet another example of Fox News being less about reporting the news and more about pushing an agenda.

Kelly “responded” to the mocking disdain by claiming…get this…she was being humorless and those that ridiculed her were race baiters with no sense of humor.

KELLY: This would be funny if it were not so telling about our society, in particular the knee-jerk instinct by so many to race-bait and to assume the worst in people, especially people employed by the very powerful Fox News Channel.
[…]
I acknowledged — as Harris did — that the most commonly depicted image of Santa does in fact have white skin. By the way I also did say Jesus was white. As I learned in the last two days, that is far from settled. For me, the fact that an offhand jest I made during a segment about whether Santa should be replaced by a penguin has now become a national firestorm says two things. Race is still an incredibly volatile issue in this country, and Fox News, and yours truly are big targets for many people.

Wait a minute…I know it’s here somewhere…O.K.,  Megyn, here’s your “victim” card.

“Offhand jest?” “Fox News and yours truly are big targets for many people?”

Agh. The stupid. It burns.

Yup. We’re White, all right.

Kelly claims she’s a non-ideological “straight news anchor.”  If that’s true, why didn’t she interview Aisha Harris whose article put her panties in a wad in the first place?

That’s what a journalist would do. At least, a real one who doesn’t suck up airtime to throw a phony-ass pity party for herself and the number one cable news channel.

But because A Madea Christmas just came out we must understand Kelly’s fear of a Black Santa.

Imagine you’re Megyn Kelly and you learn to your horror Santa is a big 6’5″ Black man from New Orleans in drag and he’s comin’ down your chimney to leave some coal in your stocking.

And you ain’t gonna buy him off with no damn cookies and milk!

You’d pray Santa was White!

“Megyn, yo’ ass has been naughty!”

Fox News Slimes Mandela: “A Great Man…But A Communist.”

A Black man with a clenched fist scares the hell out of the Fox News nation.

The universe has a uncanny knack for adding perspective whenever popularity gets confused with significance.   Paul Walker was popular.  Nelson Mandela was significant.

Fox News should not be counted in the ranks of admirers of the revolutionary lion turned honored statesman.

Cynics say there’s little difference in cable news, but sometimes the differences are obvious and stark. While CNN and MSNBC honored Nelson Mandela by turning over their evening programming to covering his life and times, Fox News stayed on message by largely relegating Mandela’s passage to the news crawl and pounding away with their anti-Obamacare propaganda.

The media gossip site, Mediaite went deep into CNN, MSNBC and Fox’s coverage (or lack of) of Mandela’s passage and the clear loser lagging behind the field was the “news” network led by hardcore right-wingers Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes.

Hardly a surprise considering everything Mandela stood for are the very things Fox News is against.

I flipped the television from Rachel Maddow interviewing Ron Dellums to Megan Kelly chatting with amiably with a medal-winning soldier.  While Lawrence O’Donnell was discussing how Mandela dismantled apartheid, turn over to Sean Hannity and there’s the ugly mug of RNC chairman Reince Preibus banging on the Affordable Care Act yet again.

Wherever Mandela is now, odds are he’s not watching Fox News.

In fairness, Bill O’Reilly did mention Mandela’s passing.  Mostly to remind Fox viewers the father of the modern-day South Africa was “a communist.”

“He was a communist, this man. He was a communist, all right? But he was a great man! What he did for his people was stunning!… He was a great man! But he was a communist!”

O’Reilly’s guest, Rick Santorum, was a bit more gracious than his obnoxious host, but even while he praised Mandela,  the failed presidential candidate compared Mandela’s fight against apartheid to the right-wing’s war against Obamacare.

With his success writing historical/fantasy novels like Killing Lincoln, it might be hoped O’Reilly would know while it is true Mandela’s African National Congress  was supported by the Soviet Union,  the United States was a supportive ally of South Africa’s Afrikaner government even as it ruthlessly crushed Black protest against the evil of apartheid.   Ronald Reagan called the racist regime, ” “a country that has stood by us in every war we’ve ever fought, a country that, strategically, is essential to the free world in its production of minerals.”

Reagan was more concerned about propping up a gang of White supremacists brutally putting their foot of the necks of millions of Black people than their freedom and sided with a bigoted minority over the oppressed majority.  Mandela opposed hypocrites like Reagan who demanded the Soviets  “tear down this wall” so East Germans could be free while telling Black Africans they should suck it up and suffer.   Liberation movements are best loved by American conservatives when their interests coincide with their own.

O’Reilly is a clown in the Fox News media circus.

If Nelson Mandela was a Communist,  Ronald Reagan was a bigot.  Bill O’Reilly is just a clown looking for a circus.

When President Obama leads the U.S. delegation to the memorial service for his African counterpart,  depending on their health, he may likely be joined by former presidents Carter, Clinton and both Bushes.   Not too shabby for a former “communist,” but don’t hold your breath waiting for O’Reilly to acknowledge that or for his employers to offer anything more than tepid praise for a man they clearly despised.

The approach of Fox to covering Mandela seems to be offer tepid praise while openly hoping he’s really dead this time.

Fox News.  It’s graceless.  It’s classless.  It’s tasteless.  But mostly it’s just racist.

Ben Carson is Still Saying Stupid Things.

Even I don't know what crazy-ass thing I'll say next.

Even I don’t know what crazy-ass thing I’ll say next.

At this week’s Values Voters Summit, Dr. Ben Carson, a renowned surgeon who has become a rising star in conservative circles, had to work hard to compete with some of the hyperbolic, alarmist and crazy rhetoric coming out of the gathering, but he found a way:

Speaking at the Values Voter Summit this morning, Ben Carson told the audience that Obamacare is “the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery.”

In fact, Carson said, “it is slavery in a way because it is making all of us subservient to the government.” Claiming that the passage of health care reform was all about control, Carson said the entire push for the legislation originated with Vladimir Lenin, who knew that “socialized medicine is the keystone to the establishment of a socialist state.”

Please Massa! Don’t make me sign up for Obamacare!

I remember when Ben Carson was a brilliant surgeon, an American success story and a role model. Whatever happened to THAT guy?  Did his scalpel slip and he gave himself a lobotomy? Carson used to keep his beliefs to himself, but since rudely showing up President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast, he has parlayed that classless act into a new gig as a Fox News contributor and is toying with the idea of running for president (but only if he’s asked to).

Some on the right seem to delight in casually comparing Obamacare to slavery as if there was no difference between the two.  Rachel Maddow pointed out this phenomenon on her blog.

…what’s up with Republicans’ preoccupation with slavery and health care?

This week, George Will drew a parallel between the Affordable Care Act the Fugitive Slave Act. Last month, a New Hampshire Republican drew the same comparison.

Fox’s Hugh Hewitt compared defunding the Affordable Care Act to repealing slavery on the air earlier this week. Two weeks ago, Rush Limbaugh also equated “Obamacare” and slavery.

I don’t imagine the right will appreciate this, but let’s make this plain: don’t compare slavery to anything but slavery.

I remember when Ben Carson was a brilliant surgeon, an American success story and a role model. Whatever happened to THAT guy?   Carson used to keep his beliefs to himself, but since showing up President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast, he has parlayed that classless act into a new gig as a Fox News contributor and is toying with the idea of running for president (but only if he’s asked to).

There is something VERY MUCH WRONG comparing healthcare reform with slavery and if anybody needs an explanation about why it is, please don’t ask me because I have no patience or time for your stupidity.   Google “slavery” or go to Wikipedia if you need a history lesson.

If Dr. Carson wants to be taken seriously, stop pandering to White conservatives and try to help make the ACA work better and more efficiently. Any asshole can complain and most do. That’s not fixing a damn thing.   Comparisons of policies you don’t like to slavery or the Holocaust goes beyond being indelicate and headlong into straight-up ignorant and Carson’s overheated language is straight up ignorant.

Doc Carson is a narcissistic egotist who has made the unwise career move from a respected surgeon to just another Colored Conservative carrying the water of the White Right and proving them political cover so they can feel good about their racially motivated hatred for All Things Obama.

Carson joins his fellow stooges Allen West, Herman Cain, Jesse Lee Peterson and the other Good Negroes Fox News keeps on standby when they need a Black face to repeat White Right talking points.   In return, they pat Benny on the butt, scratch him behind the ears, and offer him a Milk-Bone that if he keeps being a good Toby they might even let him run for president one day.  Won’t that be nice!

Let’s make it plain:  Carson is a fame whore of Miley Cyrus dimensions and his nauseating sucking up to White conservatives and the lack of pride, dignity and common sense displayed by  the Black right makes me physically ill.

Benny C. has become a useful idiot for the Right and useless for anything else.

Secession Obsession: You Can Leave But the Country Stays

“We don’t want Obama to be the president again! Waaaaahhh:”

I’ve blogged three days in a row and I was going to take today off, but I’ve been reading about all these fools melting down because they can’t handle one more day of the next four years with Obama back in the White House.   I don’t care so much about racist teenagers making racist tweets.   They’re too young and dumb to take seriously.   These fools who are circulating and signing petitions to secede from the United States are grown-ass adults even if they aren’t acting like it.

It’s always a bad idea to indulge bratty children and whiny losers throwing tantrums because they can’t handle losing.

You don’t get to run off and start your own idealized of a White, right-wing American homeland. That’s what the Aryan Brotherhood and other separatist groups are for. Trot on off to Idaho and hang out with those Hitler-slurping assholes if that’s the crowd you’re down for.

If the prospect of four more years of a Black President in the White House and growing political clout by people of color, women and young people is so terrifying then please follow the advice of Bluto Blutarsky and start drinking heavily.

The rest of us have a country we love and don’t intend to leave. If Romney had won, you know where I’d be? Right here.

“Obama won? I’ll drink to that!”

And that’s where the majority of real conservatives and Republicans are going to be too. They may not be happy about how the election turned out, but the smart ones, the ones that aren’t driving over their husbands for not voting or killing themselves after writing “fuck Obama” on their last will, know they only have four more years to deal with him.

The smart ones know there’s another election in two years and a chance to get well. The smart ones know they have a very strong bench of potential candidates waiting for 2016 including some they actually want to vote for next time.

The smart ones know the Republicans control the House where the power to turn off the financial spigot lies. The smart ones know there are even more Republican governors now than there were two weeks ago. The smart ones know better than to listen gibbering idiots like Limbaugh or Fox News because they’re often wrong and as off-target as their predictions were going into the election, not even close to being right.

The smart ones know they need to stop listening to fools like Dick Morris, overrated hustlers like Karl Rove and a Conservative Entertainment Media that tells them what they wish the facts were, not what the facts are.

I don’t give a shit what the stupid ones do. Let them secede. Let them leave the country. Let them wallow in their misery. Let them wail “the fucking nigger won again.” The election is over. You lost. Suck it up. There’s work to be done. No time to waste consoling a buncha crybabies and sore losers.

Sorry haters. Pack yo’ shit and get to stepping  if you want, but the country stays. The rest of us are still using it.

You get nothing.
